School Doctors

The school doctor is a specialist with knowledge of children and teenagers’ normal development as well as medical issues and mental health and illness in terms of children and young people.

The school doctor works both with remedial efforts regarding individual students and health promotion and prevention work. The school doctor works closely with the school nurse and also contributes with their knowledge in the student care team.

The school doctor’s main tasks:

  • Contributes with medical knowledge about the factors that promote or hinder physical and mental health as well as learning and development
  • Visits those students who need to be followed up after health visits and health talks or for other school-related reasons
  • Prescribes, if necessary, supplementary vaccinations to those students who are not vaccinated according to the Swedish program for vaccinations
