Internationella Engelska Skolan
Welcome to Internationella Engelska Skolan Tyresö
A safe, calm environment where teachers can teach and students can learn.
What does the school nurse do?
The school nurse takes over the management of your child's health from the child clinic (BVC) and follows the Swedish child health program. This is voluntary for your child to come to the school nurse.
School nurses promote healthy lifestyles (sleep routines, exercise and healthy food choices) and prevent illness with school-age students. The school nurse’s aim is to support children and young people in making healthy lifestyle choices, enabling them to reach their full potential, and enjoy life.
School nurses work across education and health, providing a link between school, home, and the community. Their goal is to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
The school nurse encourages a good relationship with the students and is a familiar person to the students. The school nurse is an easy person to turn to when needed, however the students can also speak to any members of staff. The school nurse often builds the relationship with the student during health talks, health follow-ups and vaccinations. Each meeting and conversation is an opportunity to teach the student about how to best take care of themselves in a range of different issues such as management of headaches, stomach pain…etc.
Working hours - Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 16.00
Ms Kemter (school nurse for Grade 4, 5 and 6)
Ms Hinchy (school nurse for Grade 7, 8 and 9)
We encourage students to come and see us during their breaks, or they can make an appointment with us via email. We are often with students, having health talks, or attending meetings, so in an emergency the student can ask any staff member to phone us. If students need to go home - they can contact any member of staff to phone their guardian. For parents it is best to contact us by email.
We follow the national child health program
We, unfortunately, do not have the time to notify parents in advance, however we will communicate any concerns with parents or guardians via email or phone call.
Year 4: Health Talks
We talk about school and peer relationships, diet, physical activity, and the potential health problems, as well as other things that the student wants to take up. All students are encouraged to fill in a health questionnaire before they meet the school nurse.

Further information
General Student Health Information
If your child has an illness, needs medication, or you have any other concerns that need to be checked more frequently, please email / contact the relevant school nurse. A lot can happen over the school year, or over the summer, so regular updates from you as guardians is recommended.
If there are changes to medication / treatment, the school will need some documentation from the relevant clinic. Please send this information only to the school nurses.
It is the guardians responsibility to update the school.
Special Diets
Students that require milk-protein-free, gluten-free food or other severe allergies must provide a medical certificate. If possible, a new medical certificate should be provided. This needs to be provided every second year.
The school does not offer halal or kosher foods. Vegetarian and vegan options are offered.
Head lice
Head lice are a recurring problem. It is recommended that parents should fine-comb their children’s hair once a week. If you find lice, you should inform the school nurse. To treat head lice, discuss with your local pharmacy - there are many products on the market to choose from.
Important - The whole family should be combed, and the child who has lice or eggs should be treated. The school nurse sends out reminders occasionally - please check SchoolSoft.
Covid-19
All students should stay at home if they have symptoms - headaches, fever, cough, chills, cold-like symptoms. Students should be symptom free for 2 days before they come back to school. Students should cough and sneeze into their elbow. Please keep your updated on the latest recommendations from Folkhälsomyndigheten.
Stomach and vomiting disease
Children should stay home for two symptom-free days. Partly because you will be sure that the symptoms do not return, but also so the child has time to recover.
Vårdcentalen
If you or your child has a health concern, that is not related to school or has happened in school. We recommend you contact your local vårdcental.
