Hi! What a great start we have had to the school year! It is great to see how our new students have started to feel at home, meet new friends and get to know the staff here in our organisation. It is just as fun to see our older students in year 5-9. To work with your children is fun and stimulating and I feel we have had a great start. We have a well functioning structure with learning as our focus, and we know this is the foundation for a good school. When problems arise we act immediately and follow our Plan Against Discirmination and Abusive Treatment. You can take part of the plan on our website or in schoolsoft under Files and Links.
Goal setting and Development Talks
We want all students to reach their full potential here at IES Linköping. We have our goals that we work with to make sure that this takes place. The goals are the following: 1. Effective staff collaboration 2. Effective learning - every student learns in every lesson 3. Consistent student behaviour according to expectations Soon you will be invited to a digital developmental talk with your child's mentor. During the talk we will discuss the individual student's current situation. Developmental talks are important for students to succeed in school because they help the students to get needed structure and you get information about how you can support your child. We know that if students have good structure the school will have a calmer environment and they will learn more. Schoolsoft is an important tool for teachers, students and you as a parent. As a parent we want you to log into schoolsoft every week to follow your child's development and progress in school. To prepare for the developmental talks there is now a short survey published in schoolsoft for you as a parent and for the students that you should respond to well in advance of the developmental talks.
Covid information
As I am sure you have heard, the restrictions for school have been removed by Folkhälsomyndigheten as of the 29th of September. This will not change how we work on a day to day basis. But I would like to be clear that it is only healthy and symptom free students who are welcome to school. If students feel “under the weather” or sick they have to be reported sick and stay home no matter if you think it is Covid-19 or a common cold. If you have symptoms Folkhälsomyndigheten still recommends that you get tested for Covid-19. If a test has been taken due to symptoms you should stay home during the time you wait for the test and the result. If the result is negative, students are welcome to return to school when they are healthy. If the test is positive students are welcome back when healthy and at least 7 days have passed since the first symptom. The two last days should be symptom free and healthy. As I am sure you have read or heard, children between 12 and 15 will be given the opportunity to vaccinate for Covid-19. Please see separate information.
After School Clubs and Football Tournament
We will in the coming weeks start up our After school clubs again. We will offer basketball, volleyball and we are starting to organise a school newspaper. We adapt the clubs from shown interest and possibility to organise. Right now we also have an ongoing football tournament that our Student Support Team is running. All classes from year 4-7 are in the tournament and play two times per day. This is very popular among a big number of our students. Every week we also have house events and competitions happening during breaks and lessons.
Communication with school
As parent and guardian at IES Linköping you get information about what we do from different channels. About once a month I will send out a Principal's letter with general information and things I want to highlight. These letters are complemented by information sent out by the mentor yearteams. They will inform you about events in the school and specifically about the year group activities. If you have specific questions about the school and your child you should firstly turn to the mentor. If the query is more about a specific subject you can email the subject teacher. In the front office at the school's entrance you meet Ms Annika Fällström and Ms Lotta Tholander. You are also welcome to contact us school leaders, Mr Linda Buzzelli Sundström or myself. You can find our contact information on our website. I would also like to remind you that our students have an in-service day on the 15th of October..
Halloween
This year it is finally time again for the traditional Halloween Celebration at IES Linköping. The celebration will be after school the 11 th of November for year 4-6 and the 12th of November for year 7-9. It is the PTA that organises and finances this. PTA is asking for more parents to help out during one or both of the evenings. If you can help, please contact Susann Brusasco at brusascos@yahoo.se
With wishes for great collaboration between us,
Henrik Svärd. Principal. Internationella Engelska skolan i Linköping
