Our Story
Internationella Engelska Skolan Karlstad was planned during the 2007-2008 academic year and opened in 2009 with 234 students in years 6-9. 

Now at the start of 2021, we are the biggest school in Karlstad with 830 students along with 80 staff members, of which 27 are Anglo-American teachers who qualified their home countries in the subjects of English, Modern Languages, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Music, Art, Physical Education and Sewing.  

We are truly creating an international school atmosphere at Internationella Engelska Skolan Karlstad, where academic excellence is at the top of our educational agenda. Our school ethos and school rules are tools to create a high-quality and safe learning environment, where the English language is a pedagogical tool which we utilise on a daily basis. It is not only the language which influences the environment, but also the social codes and manners which are emphasized on how students and staff shall professionally interact with each other.

We believe in high academic expectations, where students are able to reach their individual potentials.  We consider the classroom a natural place for learning where certain rules are to be lived with respect and with professionalism as its foundation. Because of this, our teachers are able to teach, observe and evaluate the students and how the individual is performing to the best of their own abilities.

Our school is situated close to Karlstad city in a large campus of 8000 m2 including art, music, home economics, sewing and woodwork studios, a full-sized gym hall and a range of student care facilities. Our schoolyard is full of different activities for our students with 5 full time activity personel who are engaging student both in and out of the classrooms. The transportation opportunities to and from our school are great, both from within Karlstad and from other communities. In fact, we have students from seven different towns around Karlstad who commute on a daily basis.

We are known for having an active and welcoming cooperation with our parents through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), which is a natural link within our school.

A very important part of our daily work is a common language we use surrounded by the theme of Respect. The words prepared, punctual, positive, active and cooperative are crucial at our school, and we use these words to help guide and coach students in all aspects of school life.
