ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Welcome from the principal

Welcome to Internationella Engelska Skolan Hässelby! Our school is located just outside the city of Stockholm, a short walk from Grimsta nature reserve. We offer bilingual education in an international environment, with students and teachers who come from many different cultures and countries.

We believe students learn best when they feel safe, valued and happy. Our staff are committed to providing an environment that nurtures personal growth and self-esteem. All members of the school community have rights and responsibilities and these are best ensured when agreed procedures are accepted and followed.

Our school has Common Values that form the foundation of our school. These values are respect, kindness, hard work and empathy. They have been developed by parents, staff and students but they are all linked to the IES ethos: A Safe and Orderly School environment, Command of the English Language and High Academic Expectations and Aspirations.

Students, staff and parents develop a clear understanding of the school’s policies, expectations, rights and responsibilities and rules, all of which reflect the Common Values. As members of our school community, parents have a responsibility to support the school in its effort to implement school rules and the rights and responsibilities. Our staff have the obligation to implement the rules in a fair and consistent manner. Students are empowered to assess their own behaviour and develop strategies to act in a responsible manner. They look at how their learning is going to make a difference and how it will affect other people.

Using the Common Values, students develop a positive attitude towards learning and a feeling of self-worth as they are encouraged to view themselves as being competent and responsible. It is their happiness, development and acceptance of themselves as people of worth, together with the acquisition of understandings and skills that will assist them to take part in their wider community.
